The Town Of Indialantic, Florida
Indialantic
Everything you need to know about your new hometown!
The charming, upscale town of Indialantic is one of the smallest towns along the barrier island of Florida's Space Coast. An amazing number of restaurants, cafes, shops and boutiques line 5th Avenue, a center of local businesses, in this wonderful little gem on the ocean.
The name Indialantic is not a typo, the name draws itself from the two bodies of water that surround the town on either side. It's a combination of "India" for the Indian River Lagoon that borders it to the west and "lantic" for the Atlantic Ocean bordering it to the east. With just one mile of oceanfront, Indialantic is a fairly private beachfront community, and is home to some of the most beautiful and unique homes, townhomes, and condos on the Space Coast.
In contrast to some of the other island towns and cities, say Cocoa Beach, beachfront access in Indialantic is kept fairly private making it the perfect location for those looking for a quiet, relaxing and completely stress-free place to live, retire or raise a family. Indialantic is that idyllic location everyone dreams of, but for you that dream can be reality. Escape from the pressures of modern life and immerse yourself and your family in the lifestyle you've always wanted.
Watersports and beach activities are a major part of the relaxed lifestyle in Indialantic. Surfing, fishing, sail boating, motor boating, kayaking, paddle boarding, scuba diving, beach volleyball and kiteboarding are all very popular and readily available for your enjoyment. Sports enthusiasts can enjoy tennis, soccer, baseball, basketball, lacrosse, running, cycling, skateboarding, rollerblading, skating, bowling and horseback riding. You may find it hard to resist the lure of our world-class golf courses, antique stores, galleries, farmers' markets, casual and fine dining and shopping that are located here or very nearby! There is plenty of shopping to be found in Indialantic, with a combination of boutiques, beachwear and many other small shops and stores scattered throughout the town. There really is something for everyone in Indialantic, and its walkability makes it easy to enjoy it all.
In Indialantic you'll find that unique living experience, accented with a perfect mingling of modern, Key West and Mediterranean architecture, plentiful townhomes, waterfront condos that range from exquisite to cozy sit directly on the sand and waterfront, of beach cottages, traditional ranches, luxurious oceanfront homes, or elegant estates. The choice of gated and non-gated communities makes for a welcoming, secure but laid-back feel, with a sense of intimacy and casualness. Schools & Education
Indialantic is just as good for children as adults. Indialantic has two public schools: Indialantic Elementary (pre-K through 6) and Hoover Middle School (7-8), which are both run by the Brevard County School Board. Both are consistently top rated "A" schools year after year. Most recently, Hoover Middle School was evaluated as a "Grade-A" school by the State of Florida from 2000. This all makes Indialantic the perfect location to raise and grow your family. The combination of great schools, a vast array of sporting and recreational opportunities, make it an unforgettable location in which to grow up.
The Town of Indialantic
Unlike many towns, Indialantic has maintained its financial footing during these currently challenging economic times, and has continued to provide ample services. Residents can take part in and enhance their lives by enjoying the broad range of recreational and community activities available, usually with no or very nominal fees. Indialantic is a well-managed town with an active and involved town government. Long and short-term fiscal and strategic planning has ensured its essential services: police, fire, public works, city administration, development and recreation, have been maintained through the implementation of prudent conservative financial measures.
Regional Economy and Employment
While the region prides itself on low key, easygoing, friendliness and quality of life, that's complemented by the strength of solid, local businesses such as Lighting Sciences Group headquartered in Satellite Beach. The Lighting Sciences Group is a leader in LED lighting and has experienced explosive growth recently, tripling their production capacity just from April to November of 2010, while bringing remarkable new technology with environmental consciousness to the market.
Satcom Direct, headquartered in Indian Harbour Beach, is a world leader in satellite communications and along with expanding their services, is now undergoing a huge expansion of its facilities and staff. Currently, Satcom Direct provides satellite communication solutions for 90% of all business aviation worldwide.
The largest surf shop in the world, Ron Jon Surf Shop, is headquartered in Cocoa Beach, and is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The four-level store and complex covers more than two acres, and is filled with an amazing selection of lifestyle apparel and board sports equipment.
Just across the bridge, the mainland is home to key regional employers such as Harris Corporation, Globe Wireless, Avera Motors, Liberty Aerospace, Invektor, AAR Airlift Group, Bombardier, Embraer, The Boeing Company, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumann, DRS Technologies, General Electric Transportation, L-3 Communications, Rockwell Collins, Intersil, Space X, Live TV, Florida Today and USA Today, to name just a few.
Over the last decade, the diversification of the area's solid economic base has been a departure from the past. For over 50 years the Kennedy Space Center and NASA were the engine that powered the jobs and business development of the region, and they will always remain a part of our rich and storied history. As the program is now set to wrap up, with the final two launches in 2011, the facilities are being converted and renamed to "Exploration Park" and will become a commercial launch complex. Today the Space Coast region in addition to maintaining the aerospace sector, now includes aviation, high tech renewable energy, emerging technologies, electronics, homeland security, national defense, satellite and advanced communications, high tech, health, life sciences and biotech - industries that have all developed, matured and are thriving throughout the area.
Brevard County and the Space Coast region have now solidly established themselves as a force to be admired as part of the Central Florida High-Tech Corridor. Palm Bay, Melbourne, Viera, Rockledge, and Suntree currently boast a plethora of medical services, providers and facilities, with cutting edge technologies, campuses, and hospitals world-renowned for their expertise. Along with our neighbors at Lake Nona, we're poised to become the nation's next research and technology center including the new "Medical City," a health, life sciences, bio-tech, pharmaceutical and research, education & treatment mecca.
